Introducing a stunning rug from Afghanistan, this exquisite piece showcases the traditional design of Mamluk, renowned for its tribal style. With a regal navy background and a vibrant cherry border, this rug emanates a sense of elegance and sophistication.

Crafted by skilled ethnic Turkmen weavers, predominantly from the Esari Subtribe, this rug was meticulously handwoven using wool sourced from sheep in the Ghazni Province of South East Afghanistan. The mountainous terrain of the region naturally produces longer staple oily high-quality wool, perfect for carpet weaving.

The raw Ghazni wool is then transported to the western side of Afghanistan, near Herat, where it undergoes the meticulous process of hand carting and hand-spinning to create the carpet yarn. Using traditional floor looms in their own homes, these talented artisans bring the design to life.

Utilizing an asymmetrical "Persian" knot type and a cotton warp and weft, this rug features a durable wool pile. The double wefting and heavily packed depressed warp weaving technique contribute to the longevity and sturdiness of this magnificent creation.

Adding to its allure is the fact that centuries-old all-natural dye stuffs were used to color this rug. The captivating blue hue, derived from natural indigo dye stuffs, is a testament to the rich history and artistry behind this ancient dyeing technique.

With 80 knots per square inch, this rug boasts an impressive level of intricacy. In fact, we calculated that this particular item incorporates a staggering 110,883 individually hand-tied knots in total.

Measuring 1'11" x 5'1", this rug is a true treasure that showcases the talent and craftsmanship of the Afghan weavers. Perfect for adding a touch of elegance and cultural heritage to any space, this remarkable piece is sure to be a conversation starter.
