Introducing this exquisite rug from Afghanistan, specifically from the Ghazni Province, we present to you a stunning Bakshaish design. This tribal-style rug features a rust background with a navy border, adding a touch of elegance to any space. Made of wool on cotton, this rug showcases the exceptional craftsmanship of ethnic Turkmen weavers, particularly from the Esari Subtribe.

The raw wool used in this rug is sourced from the Ghazni Province, known for its mountainous terrain that naturally produces longer staple, oily, and higher quality wool for carpet weaving. The wool is then brought to Herat, on the western side of Afghanistan, where it is carefully hand carted and spun into carpet yarn. Utilizing traditional floor looms in their own homes, these weavers skillfully create intricate patterns using an asymmetrical "Persian" knot type.

With a cotton warp and weft, and an all-wool pile, this rug is double-wefted and woven with a heavily packed depressed warp, resulting in remarkable durability. Centuries-old natural dye stuffs are used to achieve the beautiful colors, including the vibrant red derived from madder root dyes. These dyes have a long history and have been cultivated for centuries in various parts of the world, allowing for warm and cool shades of red, orange, pink, and brown.

Measuring at 9'0" x 11'11", this rug boasts 80 knots per square inch, totaling an impressive 1,220,580 individually hand-tied knots. Its size and quality make it a valuable addition to any rug collection or a statement piece for your living space. Immerse yourself in the rich history and timeless beauty of this Afghani Bakshaish tribal rug.
