Introducing our exquisite Afghani rug, featuring the timeless harshang design with a tribal flair. This rug originates from Afghanistan, specifically the Esari Subtribe and is lovingly crafted by skilled ethnic Turkmen weavers. The wool used in this rug is sourced from sheep in the Ghazni Province of Southeast Afghanistan, where the mountainous terrain yields longer staple oily wool of superior quality, perfect for carpet weaving.

The raw Ghazni wool is then transported to the western side of Afghanistan, near Herat, where it undergoes the meticulous hand carding and spinning processes to transform it into carpet yarn. This yarn is then skillfully woven on traditional floor looms in the weavers' own homes, reflecting the cottage industry nature of production. The weaving technique employed is the asymmetrical "Persian" knot type, ensuring a durable and long-lasting rug.

The base color of this rug is a captivating medium blue, achieved through the use of natural indigo dye stuffs. Indigo, derived from the leaves of the indigo plant, is one of the oldest known dyes used by humans. Its vibrant blue hues have been cherished in various cultures for thousands of years.

The border of this rug is a captivating shade of red, emanating from natural madder root dyes. Madder root dyes, derived from the roots of the madder plant, have a rich history as a dyeing agent, cultivated for centuries across the world. These dyes offer a diverse range of warm and cool red, orange, pink, and brown shades, adding depth and character to the rug.

Crafted with utmost care, this rug features a wool pile on a cotton warp and weft, ensuring a luxurious and comfortable feel underfoot. Its double wefted heavily packed depressed warp weaving guarantees durability, making it a timeless masterpiece that will withstand the test of time.

Measuring at 6'2" x 9'3", this rug exhibits a knots per square inch (KPSI) of 80, indicative of the meticulous craftsmanship employed. In fact, based on the KPSI, we have calculated that this rug boasts a remarkable 649,175 individually hand-tied knots, a testament to the dedication and artistry poured into its creation.

Embrace the heritage and artistry of Afghani rug weaving with this remarkable piece, a captivating addition to any space.
