Introducing our exquisite handwoven Afghani rug, featuring the captivating design of Karaja. This rug showcases a tribal style, with a captivating blue background and a charming rust border. Crafted with care and precision, this rug is made of high-quality wool on a cotton foundation, ensuring both durability and softness.

Originating from the Ghazni Province in Southeast Afghanistan, the wool used in this rug comes from sheep in the region, known for their longer staple and superior quality. The wool is carefully hand carted and spun into carpet yarn in Herat, on the western side of Afghanistan. The weaving process takes place in the homes of ethnic Turkmen weavers, most of whom belong to the Esari subtribe. Using traditional floor looms, these skilled artisans create each rug with an asymmetrical "Persian" knot type, incorporating a cotton warp and all-wool pile.

The exceptional craftsmanship of this rug is further enhanced by its double-wefted, heavily packed depressed warp weaving technique. This not only adds to its durability but also contributes to its timeless elegance. With centuries-old natural dye stuffs, this rug boasts vibrant colors that are derived from the leaves of the indigo plant, known for producing rich blue hues.

Measuring at 9'11" x 13'11", this rug features a knots per square inch (KPSI) of 80, showcasing the incredible attention to detail and precision in its creation. In fact, we calculated that this rug has a remarkable total of 1,570,620 individually hand-tied knots.

Experience the artistry and beauty of this Afghani Karaja rug. Its captivating design, meticulous craftsmanship, and rich history make it a truly remarkable piece that will add warmth and charm to any space.
