Introducing our exquisite Afghani Karaja tribal rug, boasting a captivating design and impeccable craftsmanship. This rug originates from Afghanistan, specifically crafted by skilled weavers, mostly from the Esari Subtribe, renowned for their expertise in rug making.
The medium blue background of this rug creates a harmonious foundation for the olive border, adding depth and visual interest. The main color scheme revolves around shades of blue, imparting a sense of tranquility and serenity to any space.
Crafted with care, this rug is made from wool sourced from sheep in the Ghazni Province of Southeast Afghanistan. The mountainous terrain in this region naturally yields longer staple, oily wool of higher quality, ideal for carpet weaving. To bring out the true potential of this wool, it is hand carted and spun into carpet yarn in the western side of Afghanistan, around Herat.
Our rug is meticulously woven on traditional floor looms, right in the comfort of the weavers' homes. The asymmetrical "Persian" knot type ensures durability and longevity, while the cotton warp and weft, paired with wool pile, create a balanced and resilient composition. The double wefted heavily packed depressed warp weaving technique further enhances the sturdiness of this handwoven masterpiece.
This karaja rug is adorned with centuries-old, all-natural dye stuffs, ensuring that the colors stand the test of time. In particular, the enchanting blue hues are derived from natural indigo dye stuffs. Natural indigo, also known as indigofera tinctoria or true indigo, is sourced from the leaves of the indigo plant. This dye has been cherished by various cultures worldwide for thousands of years, adding vibrancy and character to textiles.
With 80 knots per square inch, this rug showcases remarkable attention to detail and meticulous craftsmanship. Our calculations estimate a staggering total of 1,220,580 individually hand-tied knots in this unique piece.
Indulge in the allure of this Afghani Karaja tribal rug, an embodiment of ancient traditions and timeless beauty.
