Introducing the exquisite Afghani Khotan Crane rug, a beautiful piece of traditional design hailing from Afghanistan. This rug showcases the artistry and craftsmanship of ethnic Turkmen weavers, predominantly from the Esari Subtribe. The wool used in this rug comes from sheep in the Ghazni Province of South East Afghanistan, known for its mountainous terrain that produces high-quality, long staple, oily wool.

The raw Ghazni wool is then transported to the western side of Afghanistan, near Herat, where it is hand carted and spun into carpet yarn. Weavers utilize traditional floor looms in their own homes, creating a cottage industry type of production. The weaving technique used is the asymmetrical "Persian" knot type, resulting in a sturdy construction.

This rug measures 9'3" x 11'10", boasting a peach background with a moss border. The main color is a delicate beige, adding an elegant touch to its overall aesthetic. The wool pile rests on a cotton warp and weft, providing a comfortable and durable foundation.

The centuries-old tradition of using all-natural dye stuffs ensures that the colors of this rug are rich and vibrant. Crafted with care, this new rug captures the essence of Afghan culture and heritage.

Additionally, our meticulous calculations reveal that this rug has an impressive knots per square inch (KPSI) of 104. Based on this measurement, it is estimated that there are an astounding 1,627,043 individually hand-tied knots in total. Such attention to detail truly exemplifies the dedication and artistry of the weavers.

The Afghani Khotan Crane rug is a testament to the skill and creativity of Afghan artisans. Its timeless design and durable construction make it a remarkable addition to any space.
