Introducing our exquisite Afghani rug, featuring the captivating Khotan Vase design. This traditional-style rug boasts a silver background with a medium blue border, complemented by a main color of grey. Crafted from wool on cotton, this rug exudes both elegance and durability.

Originating from Afghanistan, specifically the Ghazni Province, the wool used in this rug comes from sheep in the region's mountainous terrain. These conditions foster the growth of longer staple, high-quality wool, which is then hand carted and spun into carpet yarn in Herat, on the western side of Afghanistan. Talented ethnic Turkmen weavers, predominantly from the Esari subtribe, meticulously handcraft this rug on traditional floor looms in their homes, creating a truly authentic and artisanal piece.

With an asymmetrical "Persian" knot type and a cotton warp and weft, this rug exemplifies the finest handwoven craftsmanship. Its double-wefted and heavily packed depressed warp weaving ensures exceptional durability, making this rug a long-lasting investment.

The centuries-old tradition of using all-natural dye stuffs further enhances the beauty of this rug. The captivating blue color, derived from natural indigo dye, adds an enchanting touch. Natural indigo dye, obtained from the leaves of the indigo plant (indigofera tinctoria), has been used for thousands of years to produce vibrant blue hues in various cultures worldwide.

With a knots per square inch (KPSI) of 104, this rug showcases the meticulous attention to detail by the skilled weavers in the Karam Kul district of Andkhoi. Every square inch of this rug contains an impressive 2065357 individually hand-tied knots, a testament to the dedication and artistry involved in its creation.
