Introducing our exquisite Afghan Oushak rug, a true masterpiece of traditional design. This rug originates from Afghanistan, specifically from the Esari Subtribe. The wool used in this rug comes from sheep in the Ghazni Province of Southeast Afghanistan, known for its mountainous terrain that naturally produces longer staple, oily, and higher quality wool for carpet weaving.

The wool is then brought to the western side of Afghanistan, particularly around Herat, where it undergoes the meticulous process of hand carding and hand spinning into carpet yarn. This ensures the highest quality and durability of the wool used in this rug. The weaving itself takes place in the weavers' own homes, following a cottage industry type production, using traditional floor looms.

The weaving technique employed in this rug is an asymmetrical "Persian" knot type, which adds to its unique and intricate design. The warp and weft of this rug are made of cotton, while the pile consists of all-natural, hand-spun wool. The double-wefted, heavily packed, and depressed warp weaving technique used in this rug contributes to its exceptional durability.

Centuries-old, all-natural dye stuffs are used to achieve the vibrant colors in this rug. The cherry background and denim border beautifully complement the main color of red, which comes from natural madder root dyes. Madder root dyes are derived from the roots of the madder plant, scientifically known as Rubia tinctorum. They have a long history of being cultivated and used as dyeing agents, producing a range of warm and cool red, orange, pink, and brown shades. This rug showcases the rich and captivating hues achieved through this time-honored dyeing process.

Measuring 8'11" x 11'10", this new rug is made of wool on cotton, ensuring both comfort and longevity. With 80 knots per square inch and a total of 1,200,819 individually hand-tied knots, this rug represents the epitome of craftsmanship and attention to detail. Its design and quality make it a remarkable addition to any space.

Experience the allure of this Afghan Oushak rug and embrace the beauty of traditional design.
