The "Soft Melody" collection presents a traditional Indian rug with an Oushak design. With a background in navy and a grey border, the main color of this rug is blue. It is a new rug made from wool on cotton. The rug measures 7'9" x 10'5" in size.

Originating in and around the city of Agra, India, these rugs are handwoven by skilled artisans using centuries-old techniques. The material used in the Soft Melody rug is a blend of imported New Zealand wool and either superior local wool or South African wool. This combination results in a luxurious finish with a more lustrous appearance. The imported New Zealand wool is hand-carded and hand-spun into yarn, contributing to the local economy.

What sets this rug apart is the use of a unique, single-ply yarn. Each knot of the Soft Melody rug incorporates a single thread, creating a thicker and denser texture. This, coupled with the asymmetrical Persian-type knot, gives the rug a distinct nubbier texture with pronounced knots, adding to its visual and tactile appeal.

The Soft Melody rug is known for its 6x6 quality, showcasing intricate craftsmanship and intricate design clarity. It features a 100% wool pile and a cotton foundation. Most of these rugs are double-wefted and have a pile height of approximately 3/8 inch. The handspun nature of the yarn results in subtle color variations, making each rug unique.

To ensure longevity and vibrant colors, the Soft Melody rug uses high-quality chromium dyes that are resistant to fading. These dyes are primarily imported from Switzerland and are applied to the wool in India, combining international and local resources.

Soft Melody Oushak rugs bear resemblance to traditional 19th-century Turkish Oushaks, thanks to their comparably large knots. The use of a single ply of thick yarn contributes to the nubby texture, especially noticeable at the base of each knot. Traditionally, Oushaks had a dense pile, but antique pieces often wear down to the base of the knot, adding depth and character. The subdued pile of Soft Melody Oushaks allows the nubby texture to stand out without detracting from the rug's visual appeal.
