Introducing our stunning Afghan Pazyryk tribal rug, a true masterpiece in emerald and blue. This rug showcases the ancient Pazyryk design, paying homage to one of the oldest surviving pile carpets in history. The original Pazyryk rug is said to have originated in Ancient Armenia, using the Armenian double knot technique and rich red colors derived from Armenian cochineal. Our rug meticulously reproduces this timeless style, featuring a ribbon motif in the center and a border adorned with a majestic procession of elk or deer, and warriors on horses.

Crafted by skilled ethnic Turkmen weavers, this rug was woven using all-natural dye stuffs and traditional techniques. The wool used for this rug comes from sheep in the Ghazni Province of South East Afghanistan, where the mountainous terrain naturally produces longer staple, oily, and higher-quality wool perfect for carpet weaving. Raw Ghazni wool is then transported to Herat, where it is hand carded and spun into carpet yarn, ready for weaving.

Speaking of weaving, this rug is hand-woven on traditional floor looms, in the homes of the weavers themselves. It follows the asymmetrical "Persian" knot type and boasts a double wefted construction on a cotton warp and weft. This technique, along with the tightly packed depressed warp weaving, results in a durable and long-lasting rug that can withstand the test of time.

Measuring 9'2" x 12'3", this rug is a substantial piece that will become the focal point of any room. With a knot density of 162 knots per square inch and a total of 2,608,079 individually hand-tied knots, this rug showcases the dedication and artistry of its creators.

The deep blue color in this rug comes from natural indigo dye stuffs, derived from the leaves of the indigo plant. Indigo is a centuries-old dye, widely used across cultures to produce vibrant blue hues. The use of natural dyes adds an authentic and organic touch to this exquisite piece.

With its rich history, exceptional craftsmanship, and captivating design, our Afghan Pazyryk tribal rug is a true work of art. It combines tradition, culture, and beauty to bring warmth and elegance to your home. Explore our collection and discover the timeless allure of Oriental rugs.
