This Afghan rug features a tribal design known as Pyzark, originating from Afghanistan. Its dark teal background and medium blue border create an eye-catching contrast. Made of new wool on a cotton base, this rug showcases the exceptional craftsmanship of ethnic Turkmen weavers, mainly from the Esari Subtribe. The wool used is sourced from sheep in the Ghazni Province, known for its mountainous terrain that produces longer staple, oily, higher-quality wool.

To prepare the wool for weaving, it is hand-carded and spun into carpet yarn on the western side of Afghanistan near Herat. The weaving process takes place on traditional floor looms in the weavers' own homes, following centuries-old techniques. The asymmetrical "Persian" knot type, with a cotton warp and weft, results in a durable and long-lasting rug.

Skilled weavers in the Karam Kul district of Andkhoi often create rugs with higher knot counts, and this rug follows that tradition. Each knot is hand-tied using a single-ply pern knot yarn, ensuring the utmost attention to detail and quality.

The rich blue color of this rug is derived from natural indigo dyes, sourced from the leaves of the indigo plant. Indigo is one of the oldest known dyes used by humans, offering vibrant blue hues that have been cherished throughout history and cultures worldwide.

With a knots per square inch (KPSI) of 162, this rug showcases the weavers' dedication and artistry. In fact, we have calculated that this particular rug boasts an incredible 2,649,675 individually hand-tied knots—a testament to its quality and complexity.

Whether you are seeking a statement piece for your home or a unique addition to your rug collection, this Afghan Pyzark rug offers timeless beauty and exceptional quality. Its ethically sourced materials, traditional craftsmanship, and intricate design make it a true treasure. Experience the luxury and artistry of a genuine Afghan rug today.
