Introducing our stunning Afghani rug, featuring the exquisite sauj balugh design. This tribal-style rug is a true masterpiece, showcasing the craftsmanship of ethnic Turkmen weavers, particularly from the Esari Subtribe. The wool used in this rug is sourced from sheep in the Ghazni Province of South East Afghanistan, where the mountainous terrain contributes to the production of longer staple, high-quality wool.

The journey of this rug continues as the raw Ghazni wool is transported to the western side of Afghanistan, near Herat. Here, the wool is meticulously hand carted and spun into carpet yarn, prepared for the weaving process. Each rug is woven by skilled artisans on traditional floor looms, often in their own homes or as part of a cottage industry.

Using an asymmetrical "Persian" knot, the weavers create a masterpiece with a cotton warp and weft, adorned with a luxuriously soft all-wool pile. The technique of double wefted weaving and the depressed warp result in a durable and long-lasting rug that will stand the test of time.

Adding to the allure of this incredible rug is its use of centuries-old, all-natural dye stuffs. These dyes enhance the colors and create a rich, vibrant palette that will enchant any room.

The majority of these rugs are woven in Aqucha and Mazar Sharif, utilizing a 2-ply yarn per knot. Our rug, in particular, boasts a remarkable knots per square inch (KPSI) of 80, indicating the intricate craftsmanship involved. We have meticulously calculated that this rug possesses a total of 952,660 individually hand-tied knots, a testament to the artistry and dedication of the weavers.

Measuring 8'2" X 10'3", this exceptional Afghani rug is a true masterpiece, combining traditional techniques and timeless design. Add a touch of elegance and heritage to your space with this remarkable piece.
