Introducing our exquisite handwoven rug, originating from Afghanistan, specifically the Ghazni Province in the southeastern part of the country. It showcases the captivating and timeless Serapi design, which is heavily influenced by tribal aesthetics. The background of this rug features a serene sky blue color, beautifully complemented by an elegant ivory border.

Crafted with meticulous care, this rug is made using a combination of wool and cotton. The wool is sourced from the mountains of the Ghazni Province, known for its high-quality, longer staple, oily wool, perfect for weaving carpets. Once the raw wool is acquired, it is transported to the western side of Afghanistan, where skilled artisans hand card and spin it into carpet yarn. The weaving process takes place in the weavers' homes, utilizing traditional floor looms.

The asymmetrical "Persian" knot type is employed in the production of this rug, resulting in a durable and intricately detailed piece. The cotton warp and weft provide a sturdy foundation for the all-wool pile, and the double wefted, heavily packed, depressed warp weaving technique ensures its longevity.

To achieve the captivating blue color in this rug, natural indigo dye stuffs derived from the leaves of the indigo plant are used. Indigo, known for its vibrant blue hues, has been utilized as a dye by various cultures for thousands of years. This rug effortlessly showcases the beauty and richness of this ancient dye.

With a knots per square inch (KPSI) of 80, this rug showcases the incredible craftsmanship of the weavers. In fact, we have calculated that this item boasts an impressive total of 1,583,813 individually hand-tied knots.

Measuring at 10'0" x 13'11", this stunning rug is ready to enhance any space with its authentic tribal charm and timeless design. Indulge in the allure of this Afghani Serapi rug, meticulously crafted by skilled artisans, and bring a touch of history and culture into your home.
