Introducing the Afghani Sultanabad Tribal Rug:

This exquisite Afghani Sultanabad tribal rug showcases a captivating design that is sure to enhance any living space. Crafted with precision and skill, this rug hails from the rugged landscapes of Afghanistan.

The background of this rug is a striking steel hue, providing a unique foundation for the intricate patterns woven into its fabric. The border boasts a rich rust color, adding a touch of warmth and depth to the overall design. The main color of this rug is a tasteful shade of grey, lending a sense of sophistication and versatility to its aesthetic.

Meticulously handcrafted, this rug is made of high-quality wool on a cotton foundation. The wool used in this rug is sourced from sheep in the Ghazni Province of South East Afghanistan. The mountainous terrain of this region naturally produces longer staple, oily wool, which is ideal for carpet weaving. The raw Ghazni wool is then transported to Herat, where it is hand carded and spun into carpet yarn, ready for the weaving process.

Utilizing traditional floor looms, the skilled weavers, primarily from the Esari Subtribe, create this rug in their own homes, contributing to the cottage industry of carpet production. The weaving technique employed is an asymmetrical "Persian" knot type, ensuring durability and longevity. The cotton warp and weft provide a sturdy foundation, while the all-wool pile adds plushness and comfort.

This rug is a testament to the time-honored craftsmanship of Afghan weavers. Centuries-old natural dye stuffs are utilized to achieve the vibrant and enduring colors that adorn this piece. Each knot is diligently tied by hand, resulting in a knots per square inch (KPSI) of 80. By calculating this KPSI, we estimate that there are a remarkable 872,514 individually hand-tied knots encompassing this rug.

With a size of 8'0" x 9'7", this rug offers generous dimensions, allowing it to become the focal point in any room. Its timeless design and expert construction make it a valuable addition to any rug collection or interior.
