Introducing our exquisite Afghani Serapi rug, a true masterpiece of tribal design. This rug beautifully showcases the artistry and craftsmanship of the ethnic Turkmen weavers, predominantly from the Esari Subtribe.

The wool used in this rug comes from sheep in the Ghazni Province of Southeast Afghanistan, where the mountainous terrain provides longer staple oily wool of superior quality for carpet weaving. The raw Ghazni wool is then transported to Herat, where it is hand carted and spun into carpet yarn.

Using traditional floor looms in their own homes, the weavers create this rug with an asymmetrical "Persian" knot type. The cotton warp and weft provide a strong foundation for the all-wool pile, resulting in a durable and long-lasting carpet.

The main color of this Serapi rug is an elegant ivory, complemented by a light blue border. The ivory background adds a touch of sophistication, while the intricate tribal design captures the essence of its origin.

This rug is a testimony to the centuries-old tradition of using all-natural dye stuffs. The beautiful blue hues are derived from natural indigo dyes, sourced from the leaves of the indigo plant. These dyes have been used by various cultures worldwide for thousands of years, producing vibrant and timeless shades of blue.

With a knots per square inch (KPSI) of 162, this rug showcases the meticulous attention to detail and skill of the weavers. To put it into perspective, our calculations indicate that there are approximately 2,169,031 individually hand-tied knots in this rug.

Measuring at 6'10" X 13'8", this new Afghani Serapi rug is a truly remarkable piece that will add elegance and character to any space. Its tribal design, superior craftsmanship, and natural materials make it a valuable addition to any collection.
