Originating from Afghanistan, this rug is a testament to the artistry of ethnic Turkmen weavers, primarily hailing from the Esari subtribe. The wool used in this masterpiece is sourced from sheep in the Ghazni Province, renowned for producing high-quality, long-staple and oily wool. This particular region's mountainous terrain contributes to the superior quality of the wool, making it perfect for carpet weaving.
The raw Ghazni wool is transported to the western side of Afghanistan, near Herat, where it undergoes the meticulous process of hand carting and spinning into carpet yarn.
