Originating from India, this transitional rug showcases a Khotan design with a persimmon background and raspberry border. Made of wool on cotton, this rug has been recently woven and underwent the final washing and finishing processes in Jaipur. The use of chromium dyes enhances color accuracy, light-fastness, and consistency, especially with the antique finishing applied to these rugs.
Typically woven by smaller contractors who distribute designs and materials to villages outside Jaipur, such as Bikaner, this rug features an asymmetrical Persian knotting technique. The wool blend includes Ghazni wool imported from Afghanistan and South African wool, woven on a double-wefted, densely packed cotton foundation. The construction and finishing techniques give the rug a vintage worn look, resembling antique rugs over time.
Featuring a harmonious design, this rug boasts a warm color palette dominated by shades of orange and beige, with subtle green accents. Geometric patterns of small squares, crosses, diamond shapes, dots, and lines cover the surface, creating a methodical and balanced arrangement. The narrow border complements the main design with a smaller-scale geometric pattern, enhancing the rug's overall aesthetic.
Symmetrically arranged both horizontally and vertically, this rug presents a balanced and cohesive visual effect. The pattern density is moderate, ensuring an intricate design without overwhelming the eye. Unlike traditional rugs, this piece does not feature a central medallion, maintaining a consistent pattern across the entire surface.
