Introducing our exquisite rug from Afghanistan, specifically crafted by Ethnic Turkmen weavers, predominantly from the Esari Subtribe. The design of this tribal rug is a traditional Bakshaish pattern, showcasing its rich cultural heritage. The background is a deep navy color, beautifully contrasted by the rustic hues of the border.

This rug measures 8'2" by 10'1" and is skillfully made with wool on a cotton foundation. The wool used in this rug is sourced from the Ghazni Province of South East Afghanistan, known for its mountainous terrain that yields longer staple, high-quality wool. The raw wool is then transported to Herat, where it is carefully hand-carted and spun into carpet yarn, ready for weaving.

Crafted on traditional floor looms, this rug is woven by talented individuals in their own homes, maintaining a cottage industry type production. The weavers employ an asymmetrical "Persian" knot technique, creating a sturdy and durable carpet. The cotton warp and weft support the all-wool pile, making it a resilient and long-lasting piece.

Our rug features centuries-old natural dye stuffs, resulting in stunning colors that will remain vibrant for years to come. The beautiful blue shade in this particular rug is achieved through the use of natural indigo dye. Derived from the leaves of the indigo plant, indigo dye has been relied upon by various cultures worldwide for its ability to produce rich and captivating blue hues.

With a knots per square inch (KPSI) of 104, this rug showcases the exceptional craftsmanship of its weavers. By calculating the KPSI, we estimate that there are an astounding 1,224,055 individually hand-tied knots in this masterpiece.

Owning this Afghani Bakshaish rug will bring a touch of authentic tribal beauty to any space. Immerse yourself in its cultural significance and enjoy the durability and enchanting colors it offers.
