Introducing our exquisite Afghan rug, originating from the tribal region and showcasing the beautiful Bakshaish Willow design. With a light blue background and a green border, this rug is a true manifestation of tribal style. Crafted with utmost care and precision, this rug is made of wool on cotton, ensuring both comfort and durability.
Measuring at 2'10" x 11'5", this Afghan rug is a perfect addition to any space, adding a touch of elegance and culture. Its vibrant blue color is achieved through the use of natural indigo dye stuffs, derived from the leaves of the indigo plant, making it a piece of art with a rich history spanning thousands of years.
The skilled ethnic Turkmen weavers, with the majority hailing from the Esari subtribe, have utilized their expertise to create this masterpiece. The wool used in this rug comes from sheep in the Ghazni Province of South East Afghanistan, known for its mountainous terrain that produces longer staple, oily, and higher quality wool for carpet weaving. The raw Ghazni wool is then taken to the western side of Afghanistan, specifically around Herat, where it is hand carted and spun into carpet yarn.
Woven on traditional floor looms in the weavers' own homes, this rug exemplifies the cottage industry production style, keeping an authentic touch to its creation. The asymmetrical "Persian" knot type, along with a cotton warp and weft, with an all-wool pile, adds to the durability and strength of this handwoven treasure. The double wefted, heavily packed depressed warp weaving technique contributes to its longevity.
Adhering to centuries-old traditions, this rug is dyed using all-natural dye stuffs, resulting in an exquisite and timeless color palette. Each square inch of this rug boasts 80 knots, and based on our calculations, it showcases an impressive total of 368,129 individually hand-tied knots.
Experience the beauty and craftsmanship of this Afghan rug, a testament to the rich heritage and skilled artistry that continues to inspire awe.
