Introducing our exquisite lavender background Afghani rug with a stunning seafoam border. This rug features a captivating design known as the Harshang, originating from Afghanistan. Crafted by talented Turkmen weavers, mostly from the Esari Subtribe, this rug showcases their exceptional craftsmanship.

The wool used in this rug comes from sheep in the Ghazni Province of South East Afghanistan. With its mountainous terrain, this region produces longer staple oily wool of higher quality, ideal for carpet weaving. The raw Ghazni wool is then transported to Herat, on the western side of Afghanistan, where it is meticulously hand-carded and spun into carpet yarn.

Using traditional floor looms, skilled weavers create this rug in their own homes, following a cottage industry production model. The asymmetrical "Persian" knot technique is employed, resulting in a durable and long-lasting rug. The warp and weft of this rug are made of cotton, while the pile consists of luscious wool.

Centuries of tradition are woven into this rug, as it features all-natural dye made from ancient dye-stuffs. This attention to detail and commitment to using organic materials adds to the rug's allure and timelessness.

Further enhancing its quality, this rug is mostly woven in the Karam Kul district of Andkhoi, where skilled weavers are known for their expertise in achieving higher knot counts. They utilize hand-spun, single-ply pern knot yarn to carefully craft each knot.

With a knots per square inch (KPSI) of 104, we have calculated that this rug boasts an impressive 1,566,976 individually hand-tied knots in total. This meticulous attention to detail is what makes each rug truly unique and special.
