Introducing a remarkable piece from our antique rug collection, we present to you an exquisite Afghani rug crafted by skilled Luri weavers. This tribal-style rug features a captivating design and a rich navy background, beautifully complemented by a rust border.

Handcrafted in Afghanistan using traditional techniques, this rug showcases the craftsmanship of ethnic Turkmen weavers, predominantly from the Esari Subtribe. They sourced the wool from sheep in the Ghazni Province, known for producing high-quality wool due to the mountainous terrain. The raw wool is then brought to Herat, on the western side of Afghanistan, where it undergoes hand carding and spinning, transforming into the carpet yarn used for weaving.

An asymmetrical "Persian" knot type is employed in the creation of this rug, ensuring its durability and longevity. With a double wefted heavily packed depressed warp weaving technique, it guarantees a robust and resilient construction. The wool pile is delicately woven onto a cotton warp and weft, resulting in a harmonious blend of materials.

The vibrant blue hue of this rug comes from natural indigo dye, derived from the leaves of the indigo plant (indigofera tinctoria). This plant-based dye has been utilized for thousands of years in various cultures around the world, producing captivating shades of blue.

Measuring at 4'3" x 6'4", this Afghani rug will make a stunning addition to any space. With a knot count of 80 knots per square inch, the intricate design boasts a total of 306,328 individually hand-tied knots.

Immerse yourself in the rich history and artistry of this Afghani rug, a testament to the creativity and skill of the weavers who brought it into existence. Embrace the timeless beauty and cultural significance this rug embodies, and let it add a touch of elegance and warmth to your home.
