Made with fine attention to detail, this rug is handwoven by skilled ethnic Turkmen weavers, predominantly from the Esari Subtribe. The wool used in this rug is sourced from sheep found in the mountainous terrain of the Ghazni Province in Southeast Afghanistan. Thanks to this natural environment, the wool has a longer staple length, resulting in a higher quality and more resilient material for carpet weaving.

To prepare the wool for weaving, it is first brought to the western side of Afghanistan near Herat. Here, it undergoes the meticulous process of hand carding and hand spinning, transforming it into carpet yarn. The weaving is then carried out on traditional floor looms, within the weavers' own homes, creating a cottage industry-type production.

The technique used in crafting this item is the asymmetrical "Persian" knot, known for its durability and strength. The warp and weft are made of cotton, providing a stable foundation for the all-wool pile. The double wefted construction, along with the heavily packed depressed warp weaving, ensures that this rug is not only exquisite but also incredibly durable.

As a testament to its rich history and authentic craftsmanship, this rug is dyed using centuries-old, all-natural dye stuffs. The vibrant red color, so prominent in this piece, is derived from madder root dyes. Madder root (scientifically known as Rubia tinctorum) has been cultivated for centuries across various parts of the world, and its roots yield warm and cool shades of red, orange, pink, and brown.

Measuring at 2'5" x 4'3", this rug boasts a knot count of 80 knots per square inch. With such intricacy, we calculated that there are approximately 116,890 individually hand-tied knots in this stunning creation.
