Introducing our exquisite Afghani Serapi tribal rug, featuring a rust background and a navy border. This rug showcases the traditional craftsmanship of ethnic Turkmen weavers, primarily from the Esari Subtribe. Made from all-natural materials, this rug is crafted with wool sourced from sheep in the Ghazni Province of Southeast Afghanistan. The mountainous terrain of this region naturally produces longer staple oily wool, known for its high quality and durability in carpet weaving.

The raw Ghazni wool is brought to Herat, located on the western side of Afghanistan, where it is meticulously hand carted and spun into carpet yarn. Utilizing traditional floor looms, the weaving process takes place in the weavers' own homes, forming a cottage industry type production. The asymmetrical "Persian" knot technique is employed, creating a visually captivating pattern.

Constructed with a cotton warp and weft and a wool pile, this rug exhibits double wefting and heavily packed depressed warp weaving. These elements contribute to its remarkable durability, making it one of the most resilient handwoven carpets available. Additionally, the use of centuries-old natural dye stuffs further enhances the rug's authenticity and charm.

This specific rug is woven in Aqucha and Mazar Sharif regions, utilizing a 2-ply yarn per knot technique. To achieve the stunning red color in this rug, natural madder root dyes are utilized. Madder root dyes, derived from the Rubia tinctorum plant, have been cultivated for centuries around the world. With a history of producing warm and cool shades of red, orange, pink, and brown, these natural dyes add depth and richness to the rug's color palette.

Impressively, this rug boasts a high knot density of 80 knots per square inch (KPSI), resulting in a total of 2,124,379 individually hand-tied knots. Each meticulous knot showcases the skill and dedication of the weaver, ensuring the rug's exceptional craftsmanship.

With its stunning design, use of high-quality materials, and meticulous craftsmanship, this Afghani Serapi tribal rug is a true masterpiece. Add a touch of cultural heritage and elegance to your space with this unique piece of art.
