Introducing our exquisite rug from Afghanistan, this stunning piece showcases the traditional design of the Gabbeh style. Crafted by ethnic Turkmen weavers, predominantly from the Esari Subtribe, this rug features a seafoam background and a rust border, creating a captivating contrast. The main color of this tribal rug is a vibrant teal, adding a touch of vibrancy to any space.

Measuring at 4'3" x 6'1", this rug is skillfully made using wool on cotton, ensuring a high-quality and durable composition. Its creation begins with wool sourced from sheep in the Ghazni Province of Southeast Afghanistan. This region's mountainous terrain provides the ideal conditions for longer staple, oily wool, which is crucial for carpet weaving. The raw Ghazni wool is then transported to Herat, located on the western side of Afghanistan, where it is carefully hand-carted and spun into yarn suitable for carpet production.

The weaving process takes place on traditional floor looms in the weavers' own homes, contributing to a cottage industry type of production. The asymmetrical "Persian" knot technique is utilized, resulting in a distinctive pattern. With a cotton warp and weft supporting the all-wool pile, this rug is fortified with double wefting and a heavily packed, depressed warp weaving. These features ensure its exceptional durability and longevity.

Adding to its allure, this Afghan rug incorporates centuries-old, all-natural dyes, imparting an authentic and timeless aesthetic. The region's skilled weavers, particularly in the Karam Kul district of Andkhoi, are renowned for their expertise in achieving a higher knot count during the weaving process. For this particular rug, we have calculated a knot count of 104 knots per square inch, amounting to a remarkable total of 384,308 individually hand-tied knots.

Immerse your space in the rich heritage and masterful artistry of this Afghan Gabbeh rug. Its distinctive design, superior craftsmanship, and meticulously executed details make it a cherished addition to any collection or interior.
