This Central Asian rug, specifically a Baluchi design, dates back to circa 1940. Originating from the region of Baluchistan, which straddles the border between Iran and Pakistan, this rug epitomizes the traditional tribal aesthetics inherent to Baluchi craftsmanship. The rug features a wool-on-wool construction, showcasing the intricate weaving techniques that are characteristic of Baluchi rugs, known for their durability and practical use.

The rug's color palette predominantly includes shades of beige, complemented by a silver border. These muted, earthy tones give it a slightly aged, vintage appearance, further emphasizing its antique nature. The primary design elements are geometric and tribal patterns, which include various shapes and symbols common in Baluchi designs. Rectangular and square motifs, alongside cross-like shapes and diagonal elements, add a sense of movement and direction to the rug.

The neutral colors in the carpet—a blend of beige, brown, and gray—are harmoniously mixed, making the rug's overall look appear uniform yet subtly complex. The border is distinct, slightly darker than the central field, and decorated with geometric shapes that mimic the central pattern on a smaller scale, providing a framed effect.

Symmetry in this rug is a notable feature, with both vertical and horizontal symmetry observed in the arrangement of its motifs and shapes. The pattern density is balanced; while densely packed, it does not overwhelm the eye. Areas of negative space within the design enhance the visibility of individual shapes, contributing to the textured and layered aesthetic.

The historical and cultural background of Baluchi rugs is reflected in this piece, highlighting its significance as a practical item crafted by nomadic people for durability and aesthetic appeal. The beige background and silver border seamlessly integrate traditional motifs and colors, affirming this rug's place within the rich weaving traditions of Central Asian textile art.

Last fall, my husband and I purchased a gorgeous silk from you for our Boston Condo. Based on the quality of your rugs and customer service, we decided to visit you again to purchase rugs for our Connecticut home. Luckily, we received your postcard about the tent sale and came home with two more stunning rugs.

I can't say enough good things about this store, especially Susanne and Breanna. I shop at many rug places as I am an interior designer looking for very specific rugs all the time. No one out there compares to this store and their wonderful Sales associates. Thank you Susanne and Breanna for all your help!

Over the past year we purchased three rugs, as well as carpet from L&A. Our experience could not have been more positive and we love what we purchased.

In addition, every single person
in the showroom was beyond helpful, knowledgeable and kind. It was truly a pleasure. Thank you!
