Introducing our exquisite rug from Afghanistan, boasting a distinct design known as the Small Fish. This contemporary piece features a medium blue background that sets the stage for the captivating fuchsia border. Crafted with precision and care, this Afghan rug showcases the artistry of ethnic Turkmen weavers, primarily from the Esari Subtribe.

What sets this rug apart is the use of high-quality wool sourced from the Ghazni Province in Southeast Afghanistan. The region's mountainous terrain naturally produces longer staple, oily wool ideal for carpet weaving. This raw Ghazni wool is then transported to the western side of Afghanistan, near Herat, where it undergoes the meticulous process of hand carting and hand spinning into carpet yarn, ready for weaving.

Woven on traditional floor looms within the weavers' own homes, this rug showcases the attention to detail and craftsmanship of cottage industry production. Implementing the asymmetrical "Persian" knot type and showcasing a cotton warp and weft, this rug's wool pile exhibits durability thanks to its double wefted, heavily packed depressed warp weaving.

Prepare to be captivated by the centuries-old, all-natural dye stuffs used in the creation of this rug. The stunning blue hues are derived from natural indigo dye stuffs, also known as indigofera tinctoria or true indigo. With a history dating back thousands of years, indigo has been revered worldwide for its ability to produce vibrant blue dyes.

With a knots per square inch (KPSI) of 80, this rug boasts an impressive total of 392,005 individually hand-tied knots. Its size measures 5'2" x 6'8", making it a versatile and striking addition to any space.

Immerse yourself in the beauty of this Afghan rug, where the fusion of traditional craftsmanship and contemporary design creates a truly exceptional piece.
