The present rug originates from India and belongs to the contemporary style category. It is a newly produced piece, meticulously constructed using wool on a cotton base. Being sizable at 11'11" X 14'10", it can serve as an impactful addition to a variety of spaces.

Developed by Teddy Sumner of Michaelian & Kohlberg, this rug's design concept is relatively new, entitled "Grass." This innovative design takes inspiration from the tonal patterns of small grass blades, often expressed in one or two hues. However, this rug employs natural dye stuffs to portray a gradient or 'abrash' effect. The color transitions smoothly from a light greyish-blue at the top of the rug to a dark navy blue at the bottom - creating a unique visual illusion.

The production of the rug was undertaken in Agra, a region in India famed for its fine crafts especially in rug weaving. The high production standards were enforced by using both single and two-ply yarns and specific weaving techniques. The weaving technique employed for this rug is the asymmetrical Persian knot, keeping in line with the traditional style of the region.

The rug's aesthetic is minimalist and modern, devoid of any border or conspicuous motifs. Its appearance is further enhanced by a consistent, short pile which gives it a plush appearance. Edges of the rug are neat and well-finished, providing an overall streamlined look.

First inspired by tall fields of rustling grasses, the Illusion rug's subtle design provides a calming visual, evocative of fading horizons and waving grain rows. These aesthetics combined with superior practicality make this rug an excellent choice. Its sturdy construction of wool pile ensures it is both durable and comfortable underfoot. As belonging to the revered tradition of Indian carpet weaving or Agra rugs, it carries with it an inherent sense of history and craftsmanship. Indeed, this rug is a demonstration of blending tradition and contemporary design, presented in a fresh and appealing palette.
