This Afghani rug features a Mamluk design, known for its tribal style and originated in Egypt. With a background in turquoise and an ivory border, this rug showcases a striking color combination. The main color of the rug is teal, creating a vibrant and eye-catching centerpiece for any room.
This rug is made with a combination of wool and silk, providing a luxurious texture and durability. The size of the rug is 15'7" x 26'1", offering a generous area to cover and enhance your space.
The Mamluk carpet has a rich history, with production starting in the second half of the 15th century and continuing until the middle of the 16th century. Scholars have debated the precise origin of these carpets, but there is evidence of carpet production in Cairo, Egypt.
Mamluk carpets were not only used domestically but also imported. They were used in religious and residential structures, and even lined the streets during processions. The distinctive features of Mamluk carpets include geometric motifs, mainly in shades of red with accents of blues, yellows, and greens.
The intricate design of Mamluk carpets often features a central component radiating outwards, framed by an outer border and oblong panels. The outer borders consist of medallions alternating with oval cartouches, giving these carpets a kaleidoscopic quality.
The weaving techniques used in Mamluk carpets include asymmetrical knots and S-spun wool. The craftsmanship and attention to detail are evident in the patterns created. These carpets were made with centuries-old techniques and natural dye stuffs, resulting in a truly authentic and timeless piece.
Our rug was woven predominantly in the Karam Kul district of Andkhoi, where skilled weavers are known for their high knot count weaving. The wool used in this rug is sourced from the Ghazni Province of Southeast Afghanistan, known for its high-quality wool.
With 162 knots per square inch, this rug boasts a total of 9,440,470 individually hand-tied knots, showcasing the meticulous craftsmanship that went into creating this masterpiece.
Add a touch of elegance and history to your space with this exquisite Afghani Mamluk rug. Whether used as a focal point or to complement your existing decor, this rug is sure to elevate the aesthetic of any room.

Don’t take our word for it
Last fall, my husband and I purchased a gorgeous silk from you for our Boston Condo. Based on the quality of your rugs and customer service, we decided to visit you again to purchase rugs for our Connecticut home. Luckily, we received your postcard about the tent sale and came home with two more stunning rugs.
I can't say enough good things about this store, especially Susanne and Breanna. I shop at many rug places as I am an interior designer looking for very specific rugs all the time. No one out there compares to this store and their wonderful Sales associates. Thank you Susanne and Breanna for all your help!
Over the past year we purchased three rugs, as well as carpet from L&A. Our experience could not have been more positive and we love what we purchased.
In addition, every single person
in the showroom was beyond helpful, knowledgeable and kind. It was truly a pleasure. Thank you!
Never have I enjoyed spending money as much as at Landry & Arcari!!! Thank you so much for your attention and guidance. The rug I chose grounds the furniture and makes the living room. It is so beautiful and I really appreciate all of your help.
Beautiful rug! As portrayed.
