Introducing our exquisite rug, originating from Afghanistan and showcasing the stunning design of a Kurd medallion. This tribal-style rug features a captivating navy background, complemented by a vibrant green border. Its main color palette revolves around shades of blue, creating a soothing and timeless aesthetic.

Crafted by ethnic Turkmen weavers, predominantly from the Esari Subtribe, this rug is a testament to their exceptional skill and artistry. The wool used in its creation comes from sheep in the Ghazni Province of Southeast Afghanistan, where the mountainous terrain nurtures longer staple, oily, and higher-quality wool perfect for carpet weaving.

Afterward, the raw Ghazni wool is transported to the western side of Afghanistan, near Herat, where it undergoes the meticulous process of hand carting and hand-spinning into carpet yarn. The weaving takes place on traditional floor looms, within the weavers' own homes, contributing to a cottage industry production.

Characterized by its asymmetrical "Persian" knot type, this rug features a cotton warp and weft, with a wool pile. The technique of double wefting, combined with heavily packed depressed warp weaving, ensures the utmost durability, resulting in a handwoven masterpiece that will withstand the test of time.

To enhance its authenticity, this rug is dyed using centuries-old, all-natural dye stuffs. The captivating blue hues are derived from natural indigo dye, sourced from the leaves of the indigo plant (Indigofera tinctoria). Indigo is one of the oldest known dyes used by humans, with a rich history spanning thousands of years and cultures worldwide.

With a knots per square inch (KPSI) of 80, this rug displays a remarkable level of craftsmanship. In fact, our careful calculations have revealed that there are a staggering 1,229,112 individually hand-tied knots in this magnificent piece.

Measuring at 9'0" X 12'0", this rug evokes a sense of grandeur and elegance. Its size and design make it a perfect addition to any space, transforming it into a haven of style and sophistication.

Immerse yourself in the cultural heritage of Afghanistan with this exceptional rug, a testament to the intricate artistry and exemplary craftsmanship of the Turkmen weavers. Adorn your home with this captivating piece, showcasing the timeless beauty of the kurd medallion design and the rich hues of natural indigo dye.
