Introducing our stunning rug from Afghanistan, specifically designed in the Bakshaish style. This tribal rug boasts a navy background with an ivory border, creating a striking contrast.

Crafted by skilled weavers, predominantly from the Esari Subtribe, this rug showcases the remarkable craftsmanship of the Afghan people. The wool used in this rug comes from sheep in the Ghazni Province, where the mountainous terrain produces high-quality, longer staple, and oily wool, ideal for carpet weaving. The raw Ghazni wool is then transported to the western side of Afghanistan, near Herat, where it is meticulously hand carded and spun into carpet yarn, ready for weaving.

Using traditional floor looms in the weavers' homes, this rug is woven with an asymmetrical "Persian" knot type technique. The cotton warp and weft provide a strong foundation, while the incredibly durable double wefted heavily packed depressed warp weaving ensures longevity.

In terms of coloring, the captivating blue hues in this rug come from natural indigo dye stuffs derived from the leaves of the indigo plant. Indigo, known for its rich history and vibrant blue tones, has been used by various cultures around the world for thousands of years.

Measuring 10'0" x 14'3", our rug exemplifies the meticulous artistry and attention to detail. With a knot count of 80 knots per square inch, this rug showcases the weavers' precision and expertise. In fact, we have calculated that this rug is made up of an impressive 1,621,745 individually hand-tied knots.

Embrace the beauty and elegance of this Afghani Bakshaish rug, perfectly blending tradition and craftsmanship to create an exquisite piece that will enhance any space.
