Introducing our exquisite new rug from Afghanistan, featuring a captivating dragon design. This tribal-style rug showcases a gold background, beautifully complemented by a blue border and a vibrant yellow main color.

Crafted by skilled ethnic Turkmen weavers, predominantly from the Esari Subtribe, this rug is made from high-quality wool sourced from sheep in the Ghazni Province of Southeast Afghanistan. The mountainous terrain of this region naturally produces longer staple oily wool, ideal for carpet weaving. The raw Ghazni wool is then transported to the western side of Afghanistan, around Herat, where it is meticulously hand carded and spun into carpet yarn.

Woven on traditional floor looms in the weavers' own homes, this rug epitomizes the cottage industry type production. Using the asymmetrical "Persian" knot type and a cotton warp and weft (with an all-wool pile), this rug boasts double wefted, heavily packed depressed warp weaving, resulting in exceptional durability.

Adding to its charm and authenticity, this rug is dyed with centuries-old, all-natural dye stuffs, creating stunning and long-lasting colors. The blue hues in this rug, for instance, originate from natural indigo dyes derived from the leaves of the indigo plant. Indigo has been used for thousands of years to produce vibrant blue shades, making this rug a testament to the rich history of dyeing techniques.

With a knots per square inch count of 80, this rug exhibits exceptional craftsmanship. In fact, we have calculated that this rug comprises a total of 919,933 individually hand-tied knots, a testament to the dedication and skill of the weavers.

This rug measures 8'1" x 10'0" and is expertly crafted from wool on a cotton foundation. Its striking design, impeccable quality, and rich cultural heritage make it a desirable addition to any interior space.
