Introducing our exquisite rug, originating from Afghanistan, with a captivating Heriz Sampler design. This tribal-style rug boasts a navy background, accentuated by a sage border, and a beautiful blue main color. It is meticulously crafted with wool on cotton, providing a luxurious and durable foundation.

Measuring at 8'3" x 9'6", this rug showcases the exceptional skill of ethnic Turkmen weavers, predominantly from the Esari Subtribe. The wool used in this rug comes from sheep in the Ghazni Province of Southeast Afghanistan, known for its mountainous terrain that yields longer staple, oily, and high-quality wool for carpet weaving.

The raw Ghazni wool is transported to the western side of Afghanistan, near Herat, where it undergoes careful hand carding and spinning into carpet yarn. The weaving process takes place on traditional floor looms, often in the weavers' own homes or cottage industries, resulting in remarkable craftsmanship.

With an asymmetrical "Persian" knot type and a cotton warp and weft, this rug features a double-wefted construction that adds strength and resilience. Its densely woven, depressed warp contributes to its exceptional durability.

Accentuating its authenticity, this rug is dyed using centuries-old, all-natural dye stuffs. The captivating blue color is derived from natural indigo dye, obtained from the leaves of the indigo plant. With a rich history dating back thousands of years, indigo has been cherished by various cultures for its ability to produce vibrant blue hues.

Our rug boasts a knots per square inch (KPSI) of 80, showcasing the meticulous attention to detail that goes into its creation. In fact, by calculating the KPSI, we determined that this rug features an impressive 891,959 individually hand-tied knots in total.

Immerse yourself in the captivating beauty and cultural significance of this Afghani rug. Its stunning design, superior craftsmanship, and rich history make it a true treasure for any collector or enthusiast.
