Introducing our exquisite Afghan Mina Khani tribal rug! This stunning piece originates from Afghanistan, specifically crafted by ethnic Turkmen weavers, primarily from the Esari Subtribe. The design features the intricate Mina Khani pattern, showcasing a beautiful combination of denim background and a beige border. The main color of this new rug is an enchanting shade of blue, achieved through all-natural indigo dye stuffs.

To ensure utmost quality, the weavers sourced wool exclusively from sheep in the Ghazni Province of South East Afghanistan. The mountainous terrain of this region provides the sheep with longer staple oily wool, perfect for carpet weaving. The raw wool is then brought to Herat on the western side of Afghanistan, where it undergoes hand carting and hand spinning into carpet yarn.

Using traditional floor looms in their own homes, the weavers employ an asymmetrical "Persian" knot type to meticulously craft each rug. The cotton warp and weft serve as a foundation for the all-wool pile, creating a durable and long-lasting piece. The heavily packed and double wefted depressed warp weaving technique further enhances the overall durability of this handwoven masterpiece.

This rug proudly showcases centuries-old craftsmanship and utilizes all-natural dye stuffs. The vibrant blue hue is a testament to the skillful use of natural indigo dye sourced from the leaves of the indigo plant, also known as indigofera tinctoria or true indigo. The history of indigo dye spans thousands of years and has been cherished by various cultures around the world for its captivating blue shades.

With a knots per square inch (KPSI) of 80, this rug displays an impressive attention to detail. To give you an idea of the meticulous work involved, we have calculated that the total number of individually hand-tied knots in this rug amounts to 447,169. Such fine craftsmanship ensures both the aesthetic appeal and longevity of this exceptional piece.

Immerse yourself in the rich heritage and exquisite beauty of our Afghan Mina Khani tribal rug. Embrace the allure of its intricate design, the captivating blue hues, and the superior craftsmanship passed down through generations of skilled weavers.
