Introducing our exquisite Afghani rug with the timeless Moustafi design. This traditional-style rug features a navy background and a sage-colored border, creating a striking contrast. Its main color is a captivating blue, and it boasts a size of 8'3" x 9'8".

Crafted by skilled ethnic Turkmen weavers, most notably from the Esari subtribe, this rug showcases the exceptional craftsmanship of the Ghazni Province in Southeast Afghanistan. The region's mountainous terrain provides the ideal conditions for sourcing long-staple, high-quality wool from local sheep, ensuring a luxurious texture and durability.

The wool undergoes a meticulous process, beginning with its transportation to the western side of Afghanistan, near Herat. Here, the wool is hand carted and spun into carpet yarn, ready for weaving. Using traditional floor looms in their own homes, the weavers employ an asymmetrical "Persian" knot type, resulting in a distinct texture. The combination of cotton warp and weft with a wool pile ensures a sturdy structure with double-wefted, heavily packed depressed warp weaving, making this rug exceptionally durable.

To create the captivating blue hue, the rug is dyed using natural indigo dye stuffs derived from the leaves of the indigo plant. This ancient dye, also known as indigofera tinctoria or true indigo, has been used by humans for thousands of years, producing vibrant blue shades cherished across cultures.

With a knot density of 80 knots per square inch (KPSI), this rug showcases the weaver's meticulous attention to detail. Upon calculating the KPSI, we estimate that this rug features a stunning total of 907,611 individually hand-tied knots.

Immerse your space in the rich heritage of Afghani craftsmanship with this distinguished rug. Whether displayed in a traditional or contemporary setting, it will undoubtedly elevate the atmosphere of any room.
