Introducing an exquisite rug of Afghan origin, boasting a traditional Tabriz design. The captivating background of this rug showcases a serene shade of blue, while the border elegantly contrasts in ivory. Crafted with utmost care and precision, this rug measures 12'1" in width and 14'6" in length.

To shed light on its origins, we can trace the skilled Turkmen weavers, predominantly from the Esari Subtribe, who harnessed their expertise to create this masterpiece. The wool used in this rug is sourced from the Ghazni Province of Southeast Afghanistan, where the mountainous terrain yields long-staple, high-quality, oily wool ideal for carpet weaving. This raw wool is then transported to the western part of Afghanistan, reaching Herat, where it undergoes the meticulous process of hand carding and spinning into carpet yarn.

In the timeless tradition of cottage industry production, this rug was woven on traditional floor looms within the weavers' own homes. The artisans employed an asymmetrical Persian knot type, utilizing a cotton warp and weft, while the luxurious pile consists entirely of wool. The weaving technique employed here includes a double weft and deeply depressed warp, resulting in an exceptionally durable handwoven carpet.

The vibrant blue hue that graces this rug is derived from natural indigo dye stuffs, sourced from the leaves of the indigo plant, also known as indigofera tinctoria or true indigo. Having been used for countless centuries, natural indigo dyes have a rich history spanning various cultures worldwide, creating enchanting shades of blue.

A testament to the meticulous craftsmanship behind this rug, it boasts an impressive knots per square inch (KPSI) of 162. Through diligent calculations, we have determined that this rug comprises an astounding 4,069,351 individually hand-tied knots in total, a remarkable feat.

Immerse yourself in the beauty and artistry of this Afghani Tabriz rug, meticulously crafted by talented artisans. Its traditional design, rich blue background, and intricate details make it a true collector's piece.
