Introducing our exquisite handmade rug from Afghanistan, featuring a stunning Afghan village design. This tribal-style rug showcases a rust background with a vibrant blue border, creating a captivating contrast.

Crafted by talented Turkmen weavers, mostly from the Esari Subtribe, this rug is made from 100% wool sourced from sheep in the Ghazni Province of Southeast Afghanistan. The mountainous terrain of this region produces top-quality, long-staple wool, perfect for carpet weaving.

To create this masterpiece, the raw Ghazni wool is transported to the western side of Afghanistan, near Herat, where it undergoes the meticulous process of hand carding and hand spinning to transform it into carpet yarn. Each rug is then woven on traditional floor looms in the weavers' homes, ensuring a cottage industry-like production.

Using an asymmetrical "Persian" knot type and a cotton warp and weft, our rug features a wool pile that guarantees durability. With centuries-old natural dye stuffs, every hue in this rug exudes a rich history.

For instance, the striking blue color is derived from natural indigo dye stuffs, sourced from the leaves of the indigo plant. Indigo has been used by various cultures for thousands of years to create vibrant blue hues.

Additionally, the captivating red color in this rug comes from natural madder root dyes, obtained from the roots of the madder plant (Rubia tinctorum). With a long history of cultivation and dyeing, madder root dyes can produce a range of warm and cool red, orange, pink, and brown shades. They have been used for centuries by cultures worldwide.

This impeccable rug boasts a remarkable knots per square inch of 80, with a total of 30,902 individually hand-tied knots. Its size measures at 1'5" x 1'11", making it a perfect accent piece for any space.

Embrace the rich history and authentic craftsmanship of this Afghan village design rug, expertly woven in Afghanistan. Add a touch of cultural heritage to your home with this captivating masterpiece.
