Introducing our exquisite rug from Afghanistan, this stunning piece features a traditional cypress lavar design, showcasing the rich cultural heritage of the region. The background in a captivating cherry hue beautifully contrasts with a navy border, adding an elegant touch to any space.
Crafted by skilled ethnic Turkmen weavers, predominantly from the Esari Subtribe, this rug is made using wool sourced from sheep in the Ghazni Province of Southeast Afghanistan. The mountainous terrain of this region naturally produces longer staple, oily high-quality wool, ideal for carpet weaving. The raw Ghazni wool is then transported to the western side of Afghanistan, around Herat, where it is hand-carded and spun into carpet yarn.
Using traditional floor looms in the weavers' own homes, this rug is meticulously woven with an asymmetrical "Persian" knot type, ensuring its durability and longevity. The warp and weft are made of cotton, while the pile is crafted from wool. The double-wefted construction and heavily packed depressed warp weaving techniques contribute to the rug's exceptional durability.
This beautiful piece is dyed using centuries-old, all-natural dye stuffs, with the captivating red color derived from madder root dyes. Madder root, scientifically known as Rubia tinctorum, is a sought-after natural dyeing agent that has been cultivated for centuries. It produces a range of warm and cool red, orange, pink, and brown shades, adding depth and vibrancy to the rug's design.
With a remarkable knots per square inch of 162, our meticulous calculations reveal that this rug boasts a staggering 1,248,055 individually hand-tied knots. The fine craftsmanship and attention to detail are evident, making this rug a true work of art.
Measuring 6'1" in width and 8'10" in length, this magnificent rug will add elegance and character to any interior space. Perfect for collectors and design enthusiasts, it is a testament to the rich weaving traditions and artistry of Afghanistan.
