Designed in the tribal style, this Afghani rug features a captivating Ersari design. The background of the rug is a stunning rust color, beautifully complemented by a border in a soothing shade of blue. Made from wool on cotton, this rug is crafted using the asymmetrical "Persian" knot type. The wool used in this rug is sourced from sheep in the mountainous terrain of the Ghazni Province in Southeast Afghanistan, known for producing longer staple oily high-quality wool. The raw Ghazni wool is then transported to the western side of Afghanistan, specifically Herat, where it is hand carded and spun into carpet yarn. The weaving process takes place on traditional floor looms in the weavers' own homes, contributing to a cottage industry type of production.
Using double wefted heavily packed depressed warp weaving technique, this rug ensures durability and longevity. It is dyed with centuries-old natural dye stuffs, resulting in rich and authentic colors. The blue in this rug is derived from natural indigo, which has a history dating back thousands of years and has been widely used in various cultures to produce vibrant blue hues. The red color, on the other hand, is obtained from natural madder root dyes. Madder root dyes have been cultivated for centuries and are known for their ability to create warm and cool red, orange, pink, and brown shades.
With a size of 8'4" x 9'9" and a knots per square inch of 80, this rug boasts an impressive 924,675 individually hand-tied knots. Its exceptional craftsmanship and intricate design make it a unique and valuable addition to any space.
