Introducing our exquisite Afghani rug, featuring the traditional and captivating Bakshaish design. This rug showcases a tribal style, boasting a medium blue background and a refreshing mint border. Crafted with meticulous attention to detail, this rug is made of high-quality wool on a cotton foundation, ensuring durability and longevity.
Originating from Afghanistan, the wool used in this rug is sourced from sheep in the Ghazni Province. The mountainous terrain of this region produces longer staple, oily wool, ideal for carpet weaving. The raw Ghazni wool is then transported to the western side of Afghanistan, near Herat, where it is meticulously carded and hand spun to create carpet yarn. The weaving process takes place in the weavers' own homes, utilizing traditional floor looms.
The asymmetrical "Persian" knot technique is employed in the creation of this rug, showcasing the weavers' exceptional craftsmanship. With its cotton warp and wool weft, this rug exhibits double wefting and a heavily packed depressed warp, resulting in a highly durable and resilient piece.
Drawing inspiration from centuries-old traditions, this rug is colored using all-natural dye stuffs. The captivating blue hue is achieved through the use of natural indigo, derived from the leaves of the indigo plant. With a history dating back thousands of years, natural indigo dyes have been prized for their ability to produce vibrant blue shades.
Measuring at 8'0" x 9'9", this rug boasts a knots per square inch (KPSI) of 80. By calculating the KPSI of our rug, we were able to determine that it features a staggering 887,692 individually hand-tied knots. This meticulous attention to detail ensures both the beauty and longevity of this remarkable piece.
Immerse yourself in the rich cultural heritage of Afghanistan with this finely crafted Afghani rug. Adorn your space with its captivating design and enjoy its exceptional durability for years to come.
