The wool used in its creation comes from sheep in the Ghazni Province of South East Afghanistan, known for its mountainous terrain that produces longer staple oily wool, ideal for carpet weaving. The raw Ghazni wool is then hand carted and hand spun into carpet yarn in Herat, on the western side of Afghanistan.

Woven on traditional floor looms in the weavers' homes, this rug showcases an asymmetrical "Persian" knot type, ensuring its authenticity and traditional charm. The cotton warp and weft, along with the all-wool pile, contribute to its durability and longevity. The double wefting and heavily packed depressed warp weaving technique make this rug one of the sturdiest handwoven carpets available.

One notable feature of this rug is the use of all-natural dye stuffs. Its captivating blue hue is derived from natural indigo dyes, sourced from the leaves of the indigo plant.
