Introducing our exquisite Afghani rug with a breathtaking design known as Bakshaish Willow. This tribal style rug features a mesmerizing blue background and a vibrant red border, adding a pop of color to any space.

Handcrafted by skilled ethnic Turkmen weavers, mostly from the Esari Subtribe, this rug is a true work of art. The wool used in this rug is sourced from sheep in the Ghazni Province of Southeast Afghanistan, where the mountainous terrain provides high-quality, long-staple, and oily wool, perfect for carpet weaving.

The raw Ghazni wool is then brought to the western side of Afghanistan around Herat, where it is carefully hand-carded and hand-spun into carpet yarn. Using traditional floor looms in their homes, the weavers meticulously create this masterpiece, employing an asymmetrical "Persian" knot type. The wool pile is woven on a cotton warp and weft, resulting in a durable and long-lasting rug.

To achieve the captivating blue color, natural indigo dyes are utilized. These dyes, derived from the leaves of the indigo plant (indigofera tinctoria), have been used for thousands of years and are renowned for producing vibrant blue hues. Similarly, the red colors in this rug are created using natural madder root dyes. Madder, scientifically known as Rubia tinctorum, has been cultivated for centuries and can produce a wide range of warm and cool red, orange, pink, and brown shades.

Measuring at 2'9" x 11'5", this new rug is made of wool on cotton, ensuring a soft and comfortable feel underfoot. With a knot density of 80 knots per square inch, we estimate that this rug boasts an astounding total of 357,306 individually hand-tied knots.

Bring a touch of elegance and cultural heritage into your home with this stunning Afghani rug. Its unique design, high-quality craftsmanship, and use of all-natural dyes make it a true treasure to behold.
