Introducing our exquisite Afghani rug, featuring the stunning Bakshaish Willow design. This tribal-style rug showcases a light blue background with an ivory border, emanating a sense of elegance and tranquility.
Originating from Afghanistan, this rug is handcrafted by skilled Turkmen weavers, predominantly from the Esari Subtribe. The wool used is sourced from sheep in the lush Ghazni Province, known for producing high-quality wool due to its mountainous terrain. It undergoes a meticulous process, with the raw Ghazni wool transported to Herat, where it is hand carded and spun into carpet yarn. The weaving takes place on traditional floor looms, often within the weavers' own homes, contributing to a rich cottage industry tradition.
Using the asymmetrical "Persian" knot type, this rug boasts a cotton warp and weft, with a wool pile. Thanks to its double-wefted, heavily packed depressed warp weaving, this rug is exceptionally durable, ensuring years of enjoyment. The centuries-old dyeing technique employs all-natural dye stuffs, resulting in a harmonious fusion of colors that speak to the rug's heritage.
The beautiful blue hue of this rug is achieved through natural indigo dye stuffs. Indigo, also known as indigofera tinctoria or true indigo, is derived from the leaves of the indigo plant and boasts a rich history spanning thousands of years. This timeless dye has been embraced by cultures worldwide for its ability to produce vibrant and captivating blue shades.
In terms of craftsmanship, our rug features 80 knots per square inch, showcasing the meticulous attention to detail and craftsmanship invested in its creation. By calculating the KPSI, we find that this rug boasts a remarkable 166,677 individually hand-tied knots in total.
Indulge in the allure of this Afghani Bakshaish Willow rug, a testament to the artistry and mastery of traditional rug weaving techniques. Bring a touch of timeless elegance and cultural heritage into your space with this remarkable piece.
