Introducing the magnificent Bakshaish Willow Afghan Rug. This tribal rug originates from Afghanistan and features a distinctive design known as Bakshaish Willow. With a stone-colored background and a rust-colored border, this rug exhibits a unique combination of colors.
Crafted using traditional techniques and materials, this rug is made of wool on a cotton foundation. The wool used in this rug comes from sheep in the Ghazni Province of Southeast Afghanistan, where the mountainous terrain provides ideal conditions for the production of longer, higher-quality wool. The raw Ghazni wool is then transported to the western side of Afghanistan, near Herat, where it is hand-carved and spun into carpet yarn.
Woven on traditional floor looms in the weavers' own homes, this rug showcases the craftsmanship of ethnic Turkmen weavers, predominantly from the Esari Subtribe. The weaving technique used is the asymmetrical "Persian" knot, while the structure comprises a cotton warp and weft with an all-wool pile.
One notable feature of this rug is its durability. The double-wefted heavily packed depressed warp weaving technique ensures that it withstands the test of time. Moreover, the centuries-old use of natural dye stuffs adds a touch of authenticity and charm.
Measuring 3'3" x 5'1", this exquisite rug offers a knots per square inch (KPSI) of 80. By calculating the KPSI, we estimate that this rug boasts a remarkable total of 188,016 individually hand-tied knots.
