This antique Bijar rug originates from the mountainous region of Western Persia's Kurdistan area and dates back to circa 1900. Bijar rugs are known for their robust construction and traditional Kurdish geometric styles, often recognized for their resilience and durability due to their double-wefted weaving technique. This particular rug features a tribal design, reflecting the cultural heritage and artistic traditions of the Kurdish people.
The rug's primary background color is a rich chocolate brown, providing a deep, warm base that enhances its intricate design. The border is a vibrant coral, contrasting beautifully with the main background and adding visual interest. The prominent color within the design elements is brown, contributing to the overall earthy and warm appearance.
Made entirely of wool on wool, this Bijar rug showcases the traditional materials and craftsmanship typical of antique Persian rugs. The use of wool not only adds to the rug's durability but also gives it a soft and resilient texture.
Bijar rugs are distinguished by their dense and complex patterns. The central field of this rug is densely populated with an array of floral and potentially geometric motifs, creating a lush, garden-like effect. The intricate design is characteristic of traditional Kurdish weaving, with motifs that may include the Herati pattern, continuous flowers, vines, and possibly boteh designs.
This rug features high symmetry both horizontally and vertically, contributing to its balanced and harmonious appearance. The main border, framed by narrower guard borders with geometric patterns, has a coral background with complementary floral and leafy designs in various colors, adding layers of visual complexity. The colors in the rug appear muted, suggesting its age and the natural patina developed over time.
Overall, this circa 1900 Bijar rug exemplifies the traditional craftsmanship and artistic heritage of its origin. The robust construction, intricate design, and carefully chosen color palette make this piece a notable example of antique Persian weaving, suitable for various settings.

Don’t take our word for it

Last fall, my husband and I purchased a gorgeous silk from you for our Boston Condo. Based on the quality of your rugs and customer service, we decided to visit you again to purchase rugs for our Connecticut home. Luckily, we received your postcard about the tent sale and came home with two more stunning rugs.

I can't say enough good things about this store, especially Susanne and Breanna. I shop at many rug places as I am an interior designer looking for very specific rugs all the time. No one out there compares to this store and their wonderful Sales associates. Thank you Susanne and Breanna for all your help!

Over the past year we purchased three rugs, as well as carpet from L&A. Our experience could not have been more positive and we love what we purchased.
In addition, every single person
in the showroom was beyond helpful, knowledgeable and kind. It was truly a pleasure. Thank you!

Never have I enjoyed spending money as much as at Landry & Arcari!!! Thank you so much for your attention and guidance. The rug I chose grounds the furniture and makes the living room. It is so beautiful and I really appreciate all of your help.
