Introducing our exquisite Afghan Harshang tribal rug, showcasing the remarkable craftsmanship of ethnic Turkmen weavers, primarily from the Esari Subtribe. This rug originates from Afghanistan, specifically the Ghazni Province in the southeast. The region's mountainous terrain fosters the growth of sheep that produce superior-quality wool, known for its longer staple and natural oils ideal for carpet weaving.
The Ghazni wool is then transported to Herat on the western side of Afghanistan for hand carding and spinning into carpet yarn. These intricate rugs are expertly woven on traditional floor looms, often within the weavers' own homes or as part of a cottage industry. Employing an asymmetrical "Persian" knot type, this rug features a robust wool pile on a cotton warp and weft, resulting in durability and longevity.
In the Karam Kul district of Andkhoi, highly skilled weavers are predominantly responsible for crafting this stunning rug. They employ hand-spun single ply pern knot yarn, further exemplifying the attention to detail and artistry that went into its creation.
The design of this rug incorporates a striking combination of a grey background and a vibrant red border, beautifully complementing each other. This captivating color red is attained through natural dyes derived from madder root, scientifically known as Rubia tinctorum. Madder root dyes have been used for centuries worldwide, producing a range of warm and cool shades of red, orange, pink, and brown.
With a knots per square inch (KPSI) of 104, this rug has been meticulously hand-tied with a total of 383,181 knots. This high knot count ensures the rug's superior quality, durability, and plushness underfoot.
Experience the allure of this Afghan Harshang tribal rug, a testament to the rich history and exceptional craftsmanship of Afghan weavers. Add a touch of timeless beauty and cultural significance to your space with this remarkable piece of art.

Don’t take our word for it
Last fall, my husband and I purchased a gorgeous silk from you for our Boston Condo. Based on the quality of your rugs and customer service, we decided to visit you again to purchase rugs for our Connecticut home. Luckily, we received your postcard about the tent sale and came home with two more stunning rugs.
I can't say enough good things about this store, especially Susanne and Breanna. I shop at many rug places as I am an interior designer looking for very specific rugs all the time. No one out there compares to this store and their wonderful Sales associates. Thank you Susanne and Breanna for all your help!
Over the past year we purchased three rugs, as well as carpet from L&A. Our experience could not have been more positive and we love what we purchased.
In addition, every single person
in the showroom was beyond helpful, knowledgeable and kind. It was truly a pleasure. Thank you!
Never have I enjoyed spending money as much as at Landry & Arcari!!! Thank you so much for your attention and guidance. The rug I chose grounds the furniture and makes the living room. It is so beautiful and I really appreciate all of your help.
Beautiful rug! As portrayed.
