This beige rug originates from Agra, India, characterized by its Contemporary style and Illusion design. The primary color of the rug is beige and it features wool on a cotton foundation. The rug measures 5'4" X 7'6".
This rug is a product of a concept initiated by Teddy Sumner of Michaelian & Kohlberg, known as "Grass", illustrative tonal patterns mimicking small blades of grass, dyed using natural dyes allowing for multiple shadings in the same color; a process known as abrash.
The production of such rugs incorporates unique characteristics such as usage of single and two-ply yarns, specialized dyeing processes, and distinctive weaving techniques, emphasizing the unique characteristics and origins of each rug.
The rug features an asymmetrical Persian knot, aligning with the traditional weaving techniques of Indian carpet production. Further, its design was originally inspired by fields of tall, rustling grasses, giving the illusion rugs a subtle design echoing visuals of fading horizons and undulating rows of grain. The rug is wholly handmade with an all-wool pile, maintaining a sense of history and traditional craftsmanship intrinsic to Agra rugs.
