This rug is an authentic Caucasian Kazak, originating from the historic Kazak Khanate region around 1890. The rug exemplifies the traditional tribal style prominent in Kazak designs.
Crafted in the late 19th century, the rug features a rich rust background, which sets a warm and inviting tone. Its main color, a striking red, is complemented by a green border that frames the central design, enhancing the overall visual harmony. The rug is made of wool on wool, a common material combination for Kazak rugs, known for its durability and plush texture.
The design is characterized by bold geometric patterns typical of Kazak rugs. Central to the rug is a cross-shaped medallion, each arm ending in diamond-shaped segments filled with intricate geometric motifs. The symmetry of the design is meticulously maintained, both horizontally and vertically, ensuring a balanced and cohesive appearance. The central medallion is surrounded by a sequence of smaller geometric shapes, adding depth and complexity to the overall design.
The color scheme prominently features deep reds and dark blues, with accents of green, white, and yellow. This combination creates a vivid contrast, particularly between the red and blue sections, which highlights the geometric designs and makes them prominently stand out. The border of the rug consists of an inner narrow line and an outer wider band. The inner border serves as a delicate separator, while the outer border features intricate and repeating geometric patterns that resonate with the main design's color scheme.
The weaving techniques used to create this rug are traditional hand-knotting methods, resulting in a thick and durable pile. This method also allows for detailed and precise geometric patterns, embodying the craftsmanship associated with Kazak rugs. Despite the density and complexity of the pattern, the spacing ensures that each element remains clear and distinct.
Overall, this rug is a notable example of antique Kazak craftsmanship, reflecting the rich cultural heritage and exceptional weaving techniques of the Caucasian region.

Don’t take our word for it

Last fall, my husband and I purchased a gorgeous silk from you for our Boston Condo. Based on the quality of your rugs and customer service, we decided to visit you again to purchase rugs for our Connecticut home. Luckily, we received your postcard about the tent sale and came home with two more stunning rugs.

I can't say enough good things about this store, especially Susanne and Breanna. I shop at many rug places as I am an interior designer looking for very specific rugs all the time. No one out there compares to this store and their wonderful Sales associates. Thank you Susanne and Breanna for all your help!

Over the past year we purchased three rugs, as well as carpet from L&A. Our experience could not have been more positive and we love what we purchased.
In addition, every single person
in the showroom was beyond helpful, knowledgeable and kind. It was truly a pleasure. Thank you!

Never have I enjoyed spending money as much as at Landry & Arcari!!! Thank you so much for your attention and guidance. The rug I chose grounds the furniture and makes the living room. It is so beautiful and I really appreciate all of your help.
