Introducing our exquisite Afghani rug with the captivating Khotan Garden design. This tribal-style rug showcases an ivory background with a delicate light blue border. The main color of this new rug is a pristine ivory, radiating elegance and charm.

Crafted by talented ethnic Turkmen weavers, primarily from the Esari Subtribe, this rug is a true work of art. The wool used in its creation is sourced from the Ghazni Province of Southeast Afghanistan. The mountainous terrain of this region naturally produces longer staple, oily, and high-quality wool, perfect for carpet weaving.

To prepare the Ghazni wool, it is transported to the western side of Afghanistan, near Herat. Here, the wool is meticulously hand carted and spun into exquisite carpet yarn, ready for the weaving process. Woven on traditional floor looms, often in the weavers' own homes, this rug is a product of a cottage industry-type production.

The weaving technique employed in the creation of this rug is the asymmetrical "Persian" knot type, ensuring durability and longevity. The foundation of the rug consists of a cotton warp and weft, while the pile is made entirely of wool. The double weft structure and heavily packed depressed warp weaving technique contribute to its exceptional durability.

Using centuries-old all-natural dye stuffs, this rug boasts enchanting colors. The delicate shades of blue are derived from natural indigo dye stuffs, also known as indigofera tinctoria or true indigo. This dye has been used by humans for thousands of years, with a rich history in various cultures worldwide. The result is a stunning and vibrant blue hue that adds depth and character to the rug.

With a remarkable knots per square inch (KPSI) of 80, this rug showcases the expertise and dedication of its weavers. Based on our calculations, we estimate that this rug has a total of 660,874 individually hand-tied knots, showcasing the intricacy and artistry of its construction.

Measuring 6'2" x 9'5", this Afghani rug is the epitome of beauty and craftsmanship. Its timeless design and impeccable quality make it a valuable addition to any space.
