Introducing our exquisite Afghani Mamluk rug, a true gem in the world of transitional design. With a background of elegant ivory and a light blue border, this rug truly captivates the eye. It is handcrafted with care using high-quality materials, featuring a wool pile on a cotton warp and weft. The dimensions of this rug are 2'10" x 9'10", making it the perfect size for adding a touch of elegance to any space.

Originating from Afghanistan, this rug is a testament to the craftsmanship of ethnic Turkmen weavers, predominantly from the Esari Subtribe. The wool used in this rug is sourced from the Ghazni Province, known for its mountainous terrain that yields long-staple, oily wool ideal for carpet weaving. After being brought to western Afghanistan, the wool is hand carded and spun in preparation for the weaving process.

Speaking of weaving, the creation of this rug takes place on traditional floor looms within the weavers' own homes, embracing the cottage industry approach. The weaving technique employed is the asymmetrical "Persian" knot type, adding to the rug's uniqueness. Additionally, the double wefted heavily packed depressed warp weaving method ensures the utmost durability, making this handwoven carpet a timeless treasure.

Centuries-old natural dye stuffs are used to achieve the captivating colors seen in this rug. The blue hues, in particular, are derived from natural indigo dye, known as indigofera tinctoria or true indigo. This ancient dye has been used by humans for thousands of years to produce vibrant blues, lending a rich and authentic touch to this remarkable piece.

In terms of craftsmanship, this rug boasts a knots per square inch (KPSI) of 162, showcasing the meticulous attention to detail. Based on this KPSI, we have calculated that there are a staggering 647,088 individually hand-tied knots in this rug, exemplifying the dedication and expertise of the weavers.

Experience the allure of this Afghani Mamluk rug and bring a touch of elegance and history into your home.
