Introducing our exquisite Afghan Mamluk Tribal Rug! This stunning piece originates from Afghanistan and showcases the traditional design of the Mamluk style. With a background of captivating blue steel and a rust border, this rug exudes a timeless elegance.

Crafted by ethnic Turkmen weavers, primarily from the Esari Subtribe, this rug is made from all-natural, high-quality wool sourced from the Ghazni Province in Southeast Afghanistan. The mountainous terrain of this region nurtures sheep that produce longer staple, oily wool ideal for carpet weaving.

The wool is then meticulously hand carted and spun around Herat, located on the western side of Afghanistan. Using traditional floor looms in their own homes, these skilled artisans create each knot with precision, employing the asymmetrical "Persian" knot type.

Notably, this rug boasts a cotton warp and a weft, while the pile is crafted entirely from wool. The double wefted, heavily packed, and depressed warp weaving technique ensures exceptional durability, making this rug a true investment piece that can withstand the test of time.

Utilizing centuries-old methods and all-natural dye stuffs, the breathtaking colors of this rug are derived from natural indigo. Indigo, obtained from the leaves of the indigo plant (indigofera tinctoria), is one of the oldest known dyes, dating back thousands of years. Its rich blue hues add depth and vibrancy to this exceptional piece.

Measured at 7'11" x 9'7" and boasting a knots per square inch of 162, our calculations estimate this rug to have an astounding 1,762,101 individually hand-tied knots. Such meticulous craftsmanship speaks to the incredible skill and dedication of the weavers, ensuring that each detail is a testament to their artistry.

This Afghan Mamluk Tribal Rug is a true masterpiece, reflecting the rich heritage and esteemed craftsmanship of Afghan rug weaving. Embrace its timeless beauty and transform any space into an inviting sanctuary.
